MIDSTATE CHECKDOWN HS FOOTBAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - 11/4 - LEBANON HIGH SCHOOL - QB #1 JAYLEN ABSTON

Our MidState Checkdown HS Football Player of the Week - 11/4 - Lebanon High School QB #1 - Jaylen Abston. Jaylen set the tone early with his 32 yard run, creating the momentum for the Lebanon Blue Devils to have a commanding lead at half-time 21-7 over the Riverdale Warriors. Lebanon defeated Riverdale in double OT 41-34 in the 1st round of the 6A TSSAA playoffs. Lebanon Blue Devils also defeated the Riverdale Warriors last year in the 2nd round of the 6A TSSAA playoffs 30-17.

MIDSTATE CHECKDOWN HS FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - CARTER PACE #26 / RB - RAVENWOOD

Our MidState Checkdown HS Football Player of the Week 10/28 is Carter Pace #26 - RB  Ravenwood High School. The Ravenwood RB rushed for over 200 yards with 4 Touchdowns. Pace ended the regualr season with 25 Touchdowns - 1100+ yards. Ravenwood defeated Independence 38-14 to clinch home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Our Midstate Checkdown HS Football Player of the Week 10/20 is George Maclntyre - #12 QB Brentwood Academy. The 6'6 sophomore completed 15-25 passes for 181 yards with the game winning touchdown. Brentwood Academy defeated Ensworth with a touchdown in the last 25 seconds of the 4th quarter, 10-7.

Our Midstate Checkdown HS Football Player of the Week is Pearl Cohn High School - Javion Kinnard #18 Sophomore. Kinnard had an impressive 95 yard punt return in the first half to give Pearl Cohn a clear advantage on special teams. Pearl Cohn defeated Greenbrier 19-6 to become Region 5-4A Champions.

MidState Checkdown HS Football Player of the Week - Reggie Goodloe RB - Cane Ridge

Our MidState Checkdown High School Football Player of the Week is Cane Ridge's - Reggie Goodloe #3 RB / Class of 2023. Goodloe set the tone of the game with his 19 carries on 139 yards and a TD. Cane Ridge defeated Overton 21-12 to win the 6a Region 6 and move to 5-0 in the district and 7-1 overall. On the season Reggie Goodloe is averaging 117.8 yards per game with 707 total yards on 8 TD's.

[Nashville, TN, September 28th 2022 ] — Two Nashville media veterans – radio’s Darren McFarland and television’s Justin McFarland – have combined to launch a new daily sports talk radio show starting Monday (October 3rd 2022) called “The McFarland Show with Darren and Justin” to air weekdays from 2-4 p.m. On Nashville Sports Radio WNSR 560 AM, 95.9 FM, 107.9 FM and WNSR.com.
 

Justin McFarland is a morning news anchor and reporter at Fox 17 News, while Darren McFarland has been on Nashville radio for 25 years, including the past 11 years at 102.5 FM as well as being Predators radio studio host since 2013.

 

While having the same last name, the McFarlands are not kin.

 

“It’s great having two such talented, experienced and wonderful people joining our crew,” WNSR Radio general manager Ted Johnson said. “Darren and Justin will make a great team that listeners will gravitate to and enjoy. They’ll be a great complement to our daily lineup.”

 

Darren McFarland will continue his association with the Predators as host of a players radio show with former Predators player and current broadcaster Hal Gill and also host the Predators’ Official Podcast. He has been on Nashville radio airwaves since starting at WNSR Radio in 1998.

 

“Thanks to Ted and (WNSR operations manager) Adam Johnson for this wonderful opportunity to continue my radio career in Nashville, a place where my family and I call home,” he said. “I’m excited to be launching this show with Justin, who I met while working in 1998 on a remote broadcast for WNSR. We’ve been good friends ever since.”

 

Justin McFarland is an Emmy and AP Award nominated morning reporter for Fox 17 News on his second tour of duty at the station. He was a Fox 17 morning reporter from 2009-2014, leaving to become morning and mid-day news anchor at WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Ala., before returning in 2017. He began his journalism career as a sports reporter for the Tennessee Tribune in Nashville.


“I’m appreciative to both Fox 17 and WNSR Radio for affording me this great opportunity,” Justin McFarland said. “I hope the show will be both entertaining and informative. We want to talk about and engage the listeners not only with the topics of the day, but also have some fun talking about a lot of different topics concerning our great city.”

 

The McFarland Show with Darren and Justin is the second daily show on WNSR Radio to pair two Nashville media veterans from different mediums, joining The Greg Pogue & Jon Burton Show. Burton is a sports anchor at NewsChannel5, while Pogue is a veteran sports writer and broadcaster and play-by-play announcer for Tennessee State football and basketball.

Our MidState Checkdown High School Football Player of the Week is Nashville Christian School - Jared Curtis #2 Freshmen. Curtis finished the night with a impressive stat line, 13-19 / 332 yards / 5 TD's / 1 INT with 11 passing first downs. Nashville Christian School defeated Davidson Academy 59-51.

Our MidState Checkdown High School Football Player of the Week is Donleson Christian Academy - RB - Ashton Jones #5. Jones finished the night with a dominate performance. 242 yards rushing on 19 carries for 3 touchdowns. Jones had 6 rushes for over 20 yards a pop, he finished the night with a 12.74 average per carry. Through 5 games this season Ashton Jones #5 has rushed for 615 yards with 10 touchdowns, DCA defeated Columbia Academy 42-7

Our MidState Checkdown High School Football Player of the Week is Montgomery Bell Academy's RB - Johnothan Moore. Moore finished the night with 195 yards rushing on 20 carries with a Touchdown. He set the tone early in the 1st quarter with his 66 yard Touchdown run to give MBA an early 7-0 lead. Johnothan Moore is SR - 6'0 - 205lbs and now has 595 yards rushing in just 4 games. The combination of Marcel Reed - QB & Johnothan Moore RB might be the most lethal duo in the Midstate.

Our Omni Nashville Hotel, MidState Checkdown High School Football Player of the Week. Fairview high school football RB Layden Grant - Sr, 5’10 -200lbs. He rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown. 3 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

 

Fairview defeated Creekwood 13-7.

Our week 1 MidState Checkdown Player of the Week is Devon Crenshaw – QB for Springfield High School. Senior / 6-1 232lbs

 

Presented by: The Omni Nashville Hotel.

 

Devon had an impressive win against Greenbrier High School, 35-0. He passed for 116 yards 2 touchdowns and completed 5/13 passes, 7 rushes for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. His highlight play of the night was a 71-yard run for a touchdown just before the closing of the 1st half.

[Joe Fisher joins WNSR-Nashville Sports Radio for Midstate Checkdown High School Game of the Week]  

 

 

[Nashville, TN, August 4th  2022 ] — Veteran broadcaster Joe Fisher has been named the play-by-play announcer for the Midstate Checkdown High School Football Game of the Week.

 

    Starting Aug. 19 the games will air on either Thursday or Friday nights each week for the 11-week regular season and playoffs on Nashville Sports Radio WNSR 560 AM, 95.9 FM, 107.9 FM and WNSR.com. Fisher will be joined by veteran sportscaster and sports writer and WNSR Radio show host Greg Pogue on color commentary.

 

   “I want to thank WNSR Radio and station general manager Ted Johnson and operations manager Adam Johnson for this great opportunity to return to the broadcast booth,” Fisher said. “We have put together a great slate of games, and I look forward to working with Greg, whom I’ve known for years.”

 

   An Antioch High and MTSU product, Fisher served for 23 years as the play-by-play voice for Vanderbilt athletics, including football, men’s basketball and baseball and host of Commodores coaches’ shows. He was previously sports anchor on WSMV Channel 4 and WKRN Channel 2.

 

   “Joe Fisher is a Nashville sports media icon,” Adam Johnson said, “and we are excited to add Joe to the WNSR Radio team. Through our partnerships over the years with Vanderbilt, Joe has already been a part of the family on the station. I want to thank Jonathan Shaffer for his work for five years as lead play-by-play announcer during previous seasons.”

 

  Pogue is host of “The Greg Pogue & Jon Burton Show” on WNSR-Nashville Sports Radio and is the play-by-play announcer for Tennessee State football and basketball.

 

   “When I started doing play-by-play at TSU a decade or so ago, Joe was one of the first play-by-play announcers I approached for advice,” Pogue said. “He is such a true pro and wonderful person. It will be an honor to broadcast games with him.”
